2008 VISA POUR L'IMAGE AWARD AND GRANT WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Every year, the festival Visa pour l'image awards six prizes. The 2008 Visa d'Or prizes are awarded for the best reports published between September 2007 and August 2008. Picture editors from international magazines chose the best young reporter for the City of Perpignan award which was presented for the third time. For the eighth year running, Canon France and the Association des Femmes Journalistes (AFJ) presented the Canon Female Photojournalist Award. Entrants were judged on both previous work as well as plans for a future project. read more »

DAYLIGHT'S UBUTUNZI PROJECT EXHIBITION AT THE WORLD CULTURE OPEN NYC

A recent addition to Daylight's Community Arts Programs, the Ubutunzi Project provides cameras, film and basic photography instruction to women living in Rwanda. This exhibition features photographs created by fifteen Rwandan women who participated in the project. The images they have produced are not mere projections of person al cultural values, voices of hope; but serve as opportunity for the world to witness intimate details of a shattered people reconstructing life and redefining themselves. read more »

On Sunday June 8th, Daylight editor Michael Itkoff spoke at a workshop led by Jonathan Torgovnick entitled 'Partnering with NGOs to Produce Meaningful Work. The full weekend workshop featured both photographers and representatives from NGOs who discussed how photographers can collaborate with NGOs and Non-for-Profit organizations to communicate issues of contemporary social significance.

IAN PARRY SCHOLARSHIP

Ian Parry was a photojournalist who died whilst on assignment for The Sunday Times during the Romanian revolution in 1989. He was just 24 years old. The scholarship was set up by his friends and family in order to build something positive from such a tragic death. read more »

DAYLIGHT LECTURE SERIES CONTINUES IN UNITED KINGDOM

On February 14, Daylight's UK Director, Khaleeda Kabani will lecture and review portfolios for the BA (Honours) course in 'Commercial Photography' at the Arts Institue at Bournemouth, UK.

On February 18th, Ms. Kabani will lecture at the University of Chester's Departement of Fine Art. The lecture will be followed by a day of “Professional Practice Interviews" on February 19th.
